Finding Time to Craft
Finding enough time in the day for crafting is getting harder. I have so many ideas for layouts I want to make, Christmas cards to hand make and doing all of the many tasks I have to attend to every day…I feel overwhelmed sometimes.
I have been following along with Shimelle’s Best of Both Worlds videos on her Facebook page and YouTube. This has been so much fun! I will share some of my favorite layouts I made. I didn’t make every page the way she did, I changed things up on a few and I followed along with little tweaks on some. One of the layouts she did, I didn’t do…so much freedom to do your own thing while having a “map” to follow. I was a rebel…for one of the pages I added in more from my stash!
This is the first layout I made following along with the August Best of Both Worlds Kit. This is Priscilla, a cat that we feed and I have yet to hear her meow. She is afraid of everyone but she sits by our front door and sleeps under the window where I scrapbook. I am hopeful that one day, she will let us pet her or we hear a sweet little meow from her.
This was the first time that I used the specialty paper from Shimelle’s Field Trip collection. I was always afraid to use it because I didn’t want to mess it up. I LOVE how this pager turned out. My kids are in college now but still didn’t want their faces shown.
I will have to confess…I added more things from my stash to make this layout. Some Studio Calico, Shimelle’s Never Grow Up and Simple Stories.
I filled the skeleton of the specialty paper with scraps from my scrap basket. By the end of the month I didn’t have very many pieces left. I tried to take colors from the photo which was taken in this great candy store in San Luis Obispo California.
Finding the time to actually sit down and make the pages that Shimelle made has been a struggle. You know how it is…work, family, the dreaded chores, grocery shopping etc. Then I also proofread books for a few authors and I am in advanced reader groups for another set of authors. Then to top it all off, we have been designing and selling t shirts on Amazon. Oh boy, do I need more hours in the day!
A New Favorite To Shop With
In one of the older videos I watched recently, Shimelle was using products from October Afternoon. I love the look of their collections, they were really popular while I was on my scrapbook hiatus. Sadly, they are no longer around. I searched via Google, as we all do, and found a seller on Etsy.
PaperStockist located in North Carolina is run by a lovely woman named Kate. She has a great selection of over 1,000 scrapbook products to choose from. She is wonderful about combing shipping if you are purchasing multiple items and she ships quickly and very securely.
I ordered some October Afternoon stickers, die cuts and embellishments from her. I love the colors, they have a retro feel to me. The colors are more cream based…not as bold and bright. I have quite a few black and white photos of my dad when he was little to scrapbook. The brighter bolder colors never look right to my eye with photos from the early 1940’s. Now I just need to carve out a bit of time to make some pages.
Stamps I Didn’t Know I Needed
I must admit, I have a nice collection of stamps that I am trying to use every time I scrapbook. Card making is when I usually use them, I enjoy using my alcohol markers or colored pencils to color in stamped images, it’s relaxing. This year I have challenged myself to use the products I have in my stash. I bought them for a reason, so I better get with it and use them.
I found a few older Studio Calico stamp sets on eBay. They are from 2013 or 2014, right at the end of my scrapbook hiatus. I think these are going to be fun to use on both layouts and cards.
A Few New Tuesday Morning Finds
If you are fortunate to have a Tuesday Morning, be sure to check out there craft section. I love when they get in Simple Stories products since I can’t find a store in town that carries them. They had some cute embellishments and stickers last week. The section still looks pretty bare, but my friend that works there told me more is coming in. If you are a knitter or like to crochet, the yarn selection looked well stocked.
T Shirt Adventure
Lastly, my daughter and I have been busy creating t shirt designs that we have for sale on Amazon. We are in the process of creating a website to display them. She is studying to be a Graphic Designer and this as been a great way for her to put to use the skills she is learning.
I have a page that shows some of them, she is going to be designing a few scrapbook shirts soon…just in time for the holidays. Speaking of holidays…it’s almost fall! I am so looking forward to the cooler weather, I am done with 109 degree temperatures!
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you find some time to scrapbook this weekend!
